I met Isaac during his turbulent period when he was fighting with authorities for the opportunity to continue creating his art. Despite the enormous risks, he accepted our offer to explore the rooftops of New York City.

This is a person who, with only speaking on the phone, helped me get into the NFT space. After a mission together, he quickly became one of the main inspirations for the entire urban exploration community including me. The same inspiration as I was for him when he started his journey to the Moon and never back.

This piece is dedicated to my good friend @driftershoots, who you can see in this photo.

A collaboration with Sarah Lyndsay & Jordan Banks

During NFT NYC June 2022, Sarah & Jordan teamed up to create this iconic yellow dress piece in DUMBO with the Brooklyn Bridge in the background.  Sarah was in front of the camera and Jordan was operating it.  This is the first time the yellow dress has ever been photographed in a city in front of an iconic landmark known worldwide.  They set off at 5:00 am to avoid the large crowds that usually fill this very popular street. To create movement in the dress, Sarah ran through the middle of the street multiple times towards the bridge while Jordan snapped away with his camera, until they captured that perfect moment with the dress.  

About the Artists: 

Sarah Lyndsay is a passionate environmental self-portrait and landscape photographer with over 12 years experience in the photography industry. Based in the beautiful Canadian Rockies, she is widely known for her signature yellow dress, long exposure work and bubbly personality.

Jordan Banks is a travel and documentary photographer from London with over 20 years’ experience shooting assignments and hi-end content for travel, tourism and lifestyle brands. Through the years his work has taken him to over 100 countries and provided him the opportunity to shoot some of the world’s most interesting and diverse locations and cultures.

Toronto is the city where Michael was born and raised, and is the city he still calls home. It's where he first picked up a camera and started down the path that turned him into a full-time photographer. He was initially fascinated with street photography and the idea of capturing a fleeting moment of time. This evolved into creating a unique style that is undeniably his. For Michael and his camera, it all started in Toronto.

The layers of life in Cuba fascinate me. 

Visually - the old American cars, Russian bangers, crumbling buildings and palm trees form the backdrop to improvised work stations, roadside chit-chats, daily domino games, hobbies and street sports.

Beneath that surface layer is where I like to explore and feel comfortable with my camera. The stories that question, provoke and give insight and a deeper understanding of life in that world. 

15 years after studying in Cuba I returned to this beautiful island to see what had changed, or been preserved since. It is impossible to ignore the political situation that has frozen this land and people in time. 

The lack of technology, infrastructure, supplies, food and wealth contribute to a society with strong community values - distracted less by digital innovation, and bolstered by reusing, and recycling.

The breathaking and iconic architecture of Dreta de l'Eixample district of Barcelona, is especially beautiful from above.

Part of my project #theworldbelow - Urban Spaces, the district seen from the air is such a visually appealing experience with the unique grid of this neighbourhood clearly crossed by the aptly named Avinguda Diagonal (Diagonal Avenue).

The magnificent urban project of L'Eixample was designed in 1855 by architect Ildefons Cerdà.

Even though the forecast wasn't that promising I got myself out of bed and walked along through the deserted streets of Venice to this viewpoint overlooking Grand canal. Surprisingly I had the view to myself on this morning !, the previous evening I was jostling for space amongst tons of people. Using a dark filter and long exposure this created a nice colour shift and blurred the water nicely. No direct sun but sometimes that works out better.

What better way to view the medieval city of Bern from a birds eye. Its towering city walls rising from the river, the beautiful bridges and bright red roofs really bring this image to life. To fit this view into a single frame I had to combine a 3 set vertical panorama comprised of 3 images each to get high dynamic range which captured the moody clouds perfectly.

This amazing watercolor-like image of Venice was taken in the old town with St Mark’s square and the lagoon islet in the distance. The warm tones of the rooftops and maze-like structure of the old town are just hypnotizing viewed from above, with over 150 canals and 400 footbridges spread across town and connecting the various districts.

Sleeping Suburbia consists of photographs taken in suburban and rural scenes in the dead of the night. The silence of a closed business, the ominous glow of a bright interior, the webbing of directional shadows…these scenes capture and depict the bones of otherwise lively communities. I process my images with low contrast techniques, and when composing, often incorporate negative “breathing” space into the frame. Through this approach, I create a sense of displacement, pushing viewers to question the comfort typically assumed of a hometown.

This was taken during the final days of the Seattle Viaduct, while it was open to the public, before being torn down. I couldn't resist taking a walk. There was a soft, retro vibe that I was picking up that afternoon. Like the end of summer or the last whisper of a dream - something out of a movie, and I wanted to express that in the final edit of the photo.

I Wish That Life Was Like It Is In The Movies

Transcontinental railroad travelers ended their westward journey not by train but by boat at this station, which handled up to 47 million passengers a year. When the 1906 earthquake struck, it stopped the 22-foot clock, but the terminal and tower survived largely intact, much to the relief of refugees forced to flee across the bay.

New York architect A. Page Brown snagged the job after designing a tomb for Charles Crocker, president of the Southern Pacific Railroad, which supplied most ferry traffic. Politicians worried over the bidding, and Brown's payment was frozen during construction; before the dispute was resolved, he died from injuries sustained after his horsecart went off a bridge.

Bridges — the Bay and the Golden Gate — also killed off ferry service. An elevated Embarcadero Freeway added insult to injury, barricading the building from Market Street. Demolition talk roused defenders like Herb Caen, who wrote: "The waterfront without the Ferry Tower would be like a birthday cake without a candle." Ironically, another earthquake essentially saved the structure — the 1989 Loma Prieta tremor so damaged the freeway that it was razed, releasing the forlorn terminal from its isolation.

It has since had an extensive facelift and has been reborn as a marketplace, the handsome grand nave illuminated by its original 660-foot skylight. Even the ferries have returned.

On this crisp and clear January day, my friend who is a pilot and I decided to fly higher over New York than I ever had.  At the flight's zenith, we made it just under 11,000 feet in altitude above New York Harbor.  The conditions that day were perfect for photography, and the views went on for at least 50 miles in either direction.  This may have been the most special flight I have ever taken simply for the ability to see how the rivers have carved away at the land, and formed this area.  New York is a city of rivers and islands, and no other image in my archives highlight that fact more than this.

These shots are taken using Long Exposure techniques that take time to master and lots of patience waiting for just the right moment. Some of the pieces have a 3D laser effect that requires precise timing and zooming to the millimetre in-camera to achieve the effect.

The Juneteenth Memorial mural celebrates the land of the brave and of those set free in 1865.  This mural was painted by several local African American artists in commemoration of their ancestors, on the main street where slaves were now set free.

Abandoned Monastery, Italy. In early 2017, my (now) husband and I began talking about marriage. So at that point, I felt it was appropriate to start planning our "urbex" honeymoon. We were married by late December, but were still planning and saving money, so we could do a special one month explore overseas (something we had not done before). I spent many evenings google translating information from different countries in Europe, but we finally decided Italy would be one of the countries we would explore on our trip. The "Blue Chapel" was one of two places that cemented our decision. It was one of the most beautiful abandoned churches I had ever come across in my years of research. Fast forward to summer 2019 - off we flew to our adventure of a lifetime. We spent 9 days in Ireland, 9 days in France and then the grand finale: 9 days in Italy. On day 5, we got to the "Blue Chapel" and entered through the back door, which stood ajar. I started setting up my tripod and camera for this shot, as my husband wandered around looking at all the beautiful details. Before I could even press my shutter button, my husband told me not to go to the front of the chapel. When I asked why, he replied that someone had removed the remains from the crypt and put them on the alter. He then added it was something he wished he hadn't seen. I took only two shots from the back of the chapel, before we decided to leave with heavy hearts. Disturbing someone and moving them from their place of rest, is not what exploring is about. This was most likely done by someone who ignored the explorer's code, in order to become insta-famous. Ultimately, we did not want to be caught inside the building and be mistakenly accused of this behaviour, so we begrudgingly cut our visit short and left. This experience left me very unsettled and very disappointed, as we had planned our entire trip around this particular location. So two days later, as we were circling around to head north again, we decided to go back and try one more time, because we didn't know if we would ever get to return to Italy in the future. When we approached the chapel, the door we had entered through, now had new chains on it. Had someone discovered what was inside? We walked around the building to see if there was another entrance - there was. We reluctantly entered the chapel once more. The remains had been removed from the altar and I wondered if there was a caretaker that watched over the building. My husband and I took some more photos, and quickly slipped out, never to return. But this experience will always be a reminder for me, of the explorer's code: "Take nothing but photos, leave nothing but footprints."
